About us

Il Forno is located in the Grade II listed Victorian railway station which now forms part of the Tyne and Wear Metro system.

The main restaurant, with its glorious vaulted ceiling and large windows, lends a special atmosphere to any occasion, whilst the focal point of the restaurant is the authentic open fire pizza oven (Il Forno is Italian for 'the oven'), where you can watch our pizza chef creating delicious, freshly baked, thin and crispy pizzas. Authentic Italian ingredients are used to ensure our pizzas are the closest to Italian you'll ever have!

All of our dishes, including our fresh pastas, are created on the premises, with each dish cooked to order by our talented team of chefs. We also have a fantastic childrens' menu which includes freshly made pizza, and homemade chicken nuggets.

Our wine collection combines Italian classics like Chianti, Frascati and Valpolicella with those for the more serious wine connoisseur such as Barolo or Amarone - and for those wishing to spend £280, Solaia Antinori 2000, awarded 3 glasses by Gambero Rosso.

Il Forno is a popular venue for weddings -  couples are drawn to the light, airy room which is large enough to seat 70. However, the biggest attraction is the food, with menus created especially for the occasion.

In summer we open our terrace, which has the advantage of being covered by the glass roof of the station, where you can dine al fresco. With a seafood platter, a bottle of chilled Frascati or Pinot Grigio and the sun shining down, you could almost believe you’re in Italy!
